Tom Hansen Medal

The 2023-24 Pac-12 Tom Hansen Conference Medal recipients were announced today. A Conference Medal is awarded annually to each member institution’s outstanding senior male and female student-athlete based on the exhibition of the greatest combination of performance and achievement in scholarship, athletics and leadership.

Conference medal winners have been named every year since the 1960-61 academic year. In 2009, the Pac-12 renamed the award the Tom Hansen Conference Medal in honor of Hansen, who retired at the end of June 2009 after serving for 26 years as Commissioner of the Pac-10.

Key member of the resurgence of Arizona Men's Tennis that during his career won first ever Pac-12 regular season title in 2022 before winning it again in 2023 and 2024 ... Ryggs Johnston, Men’s Golf (Libby, Mont.)

Johnston – who closed his career with four straight top-10 finishes -- finished his five years as a Sun Devil with third-team All-America honors in 2024, as he helped lead the Sun Devils to the 2024 Pac-12 title … Johnston also earned third-team honors in 2021, highlighted by his third-place finish at the NCAA Championships … The Montana native had 14 career top-10 finishes and earned first-team All-Pac-12 honors twice (2024 and 2021) and second-team honors in 2022 … He became the second Sun Devil men's golfer to earn the Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2022-23 as he graduated in May of 2023 with his management degree and a certificate in sports business and then earned ASU’s Bill Kajikawa Award in 2023-24, given to a senior student-athlete based on academic excellence, athletic accomplishment, leadership and service in the community … Habitat For Humanity.

Ashley Menne, Women’s Golf (Surprise, Ariz.)

Menne continued her steady development since arriving at ASU, as she becomes one of the most decorated golfers at the collegiate level. By virtue of her selection to the WGCA All-American Honorable Mention Team, Menne has now been named an All-American in each of her four seasons in Tempe. She becomes the first Sun Devil since Olivia Mehaffey (2017-21) to earn All-American honors in all four years … Menne joins some exclusive company by earning a fourth All-American distinction. She is only the fourth four-time All-American in program history. Only legendary figures Olivia Mehaffey, Azahara Munoz (2006-09) and Kellee Booth (1995-98) have accomplished this impressive feat … Menne was one of only 12 golfers named to the Pac-12 All-Conference First Team in arguably the deepest conference in the country … Menne has been an All-Conference honoree each of her four seasons in Tempe (2x Honorable Mention; 2x First Team). Joined Tony Azevedo as only players to win three Cutino Awards … Led Cal to its record 17th national title and third 3-peat with a 24-5 record … Third straight ACWPC National Player of the Year and NCAA Championship MVP accolades … Became first five-time ACWPC All-American in program history … Nation-leading 95 drawn exclusions … 43 goals for the season, bringing his career total to 253 (second most all-time at Cal) … Earned his fourth consecutive All-Academic MPSF and ACWPC honors, as well as making his fourth straight the Pac-12 Honor Roll … Team captain … General team community service in Berkeley.

Isabel Williams, Women’s Water Polo (Severna Park, Md.)

Won one NCAA title and three Pac-12 titles in her career ... Finished with 42 goals, 16 game-winning goals and seven multi-goal games, totals that rank fifth all-time at UCLA ... Ranks sixth at UCLA with 99 career points and third with three career hat tricks ...
