Feb 2, 2023

EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon head coach Matt Ulmer has announced the addition of graduate transfer Gabby Gonzales to the Ducks' 2023 roster. Gonzales spent the previous four years at Ohio State where she had more than 1,200 career kills and helped the Buckeyes reach a regional final in 2022.

Gonzales is coming off a season in which she registered 3.29 kills per set coupled with 2.59 digs per set and 40 service aces, both career-high numbers. In a display of her all-around contribution, she finished 10th in the Big Ten with 3.77 points per set, a figure that increased to 3.99 points per set in conference play.

The Marietta, Ga., native was named to the All-Big Ten Second Team during the 2022 campaign and was an AVCA All-Northeast Region honorable mention performer.

The 6-3 outside hitter reached double-digit kills in 21 of 32 matches last season including a season-high 24 kills at Penn State (Oct. 29), a match in which she also tallied 10 digs and two aces. In a four-set win at Michigan (Sept. 28), Gonzales had 22 kills and 12 digs.

Gonzales finished the year with 12 double-doubles including an 18-kill, 20-dig performance in a four-set victory against Nebraska (Nov. 13). She had a season-high 21 digs the following week against Indiana. In a 2021 non-conference match against Notre Dame, she established a career high of 25 digs.

Gonzales led Ohio State with 40 services aces in 2022, and had 10 matches last year with multiple aces. She tied the OSU program single-match record with eight aces against Northwestern (Oct. 9), and added 12 kills and 12 digs in the four-set win.

During her OSU career, Gonzales has racked up 1,210 kills (3.13 k/s), 949 digs (2.45 d/s), 116 total blocks and 104 service aces. She also averaged 3.56 points per set as a Buckeye.

Last month, the Ducks announced the addition of Kara McGhee, a graduate transfer from Baylor, for the upcoming 2023 season.

Oregon finished the 2022 campaign with a 26-6 record and a postseason run to the Elite Eight for a third time in program history. The Ducks' win total (26) is tied for third on the program's single-season list and dating back to the 2021 season, UO has won 18-consecutive matches at Matthew Knight Arena including a 14-0 home mark this past year.
